Meeting Minutes July 9, 2019

  1. Guest speakers were Danielle D’Abate, Chief Community Prosecution for the Erie County DA, and Cassandra Callanan, Senior Victim/case aid with the Erie County DA.
  2. The Community Prosecutions office was created to help create a better relationship between the community, the police and the DA.  They are available to attend community events and provide advice to the community and the police.  They are particularly active in domestic violence, public integrity and property damage crimes.  They have a community outreach program to do outreach to youth and have a gun violence panel bringing together mothers of children killed by gun violence, gang members and police officers.
  3. They also assist with the crime victims compensation program that can help compensate people who have suffered monetary damages from crime that is not otherwise compensated. They also provide witness protection and assistance programs including translators, transportation, emotional support and counseling, and can help prepare a victims impact statement and can help petition family court for an order of protection.  Must have a police report for this assistance.
  4. This office can also assist community members who are having difficulty with a house in their area which has problem tenants/residents.  Best procedure is to document the problems with 311 calls but can also call Danielle  D’Abate 716-858- 2400 to find out if there is a current case involving the issue.
  5. Creativity at the Crossroads event is being help Saturday July 13, at the crossroads where the bike path and the linear park come together.  The will be music, chicken barbecue, a pop-up bike repair and activities for kids.
  6. Wellness Walks from Anderson Gallery through some of the Garden Walk and ending at the Crossroads will take place throughout the day.
