ReTree the District Fall 2015 Planting

ReTree the District is a collaborative project of community partners in Buffalo’s University District that is working to plant 1,000 trees across the community. By planting trees we are not only creating a healthier environment, we’re also creating a stronger community and building relationships between residents, students, and neighbors.

Join us on November 7th from 9:00AM to 1:00PM for our fall planting day and help us reach our goal of 1,000 new trees across University District!

Please arrive at Kapoor Hall on UB’s South Campus at 9AM on Saturday, November 7th.  A brief rundown of the day’s event are as follows:

  • 9:00AM – 10:00AM: Registration & Training
  • 10:00AM – 1:00PM: Planting Trees!

ReTree the District Pruning and Stewardship Workshops

Join us as we canvas the streets from Phase I & Phase II of ReTree the District to assess, restake, retie and prune the 435 trees that were planted over the past fall and spring.

NO SKILLZ REQUIRED; WE WILL TRAIN!

Garden Guru Caesandra Seawall and volunteers from the Tool Library will be on site for hands-on demonstration of how to properly prune newly planted trees, as well as tips to keep trees of all ages healthy and happy. This is a LEARN by DOING workshop!

The Tool Library will supply pruning tools and gloves but you are more than welcome to bring your own, and a friend :)

For both dates, please meet at the University Heights Tool Library located at 5 W. Northrup Place.

The Foundry will also sponsoring tree maintenance workshops in the Cold Spring/Masten neighborhood on Thursday, August 20th 6-8PM (Facebook Event) & Saturday, September 26th 10AM-Noon (Facebook Event).

Logistics for Planting Day – April 18th @ 9AM

Please arrive at 147 Diefendorf Hall on UB’s South Campus at 9AM on Saturday, April 18th. If you are unfamiliar with the area please refer to this map. A brief rundown of the day’s event are as follows:

  • 9:00AM – 10:00AM: Registration & Training
  • 10:00AM – 1:00PM: Planting 250 Trees!

You can help expedite the registration process by printing out and signing this waiver ahead of time and bringing it with you in the morning.


Practice Planting – April 11th @ 10AM

If you’re planning on being a team leader on April 18th you MUST attend the practice planting!

Learn how to properly plant a bare root tree at our practice planting day on Saturday, April 11th!

We’ll meet at the Tool Library located at 5 W. Northrup Place at 10AM to pick up the tools we need and then walk over to our planting sites on Englewood Avenue. Once there, we’ll plant approximately 20 trees.


Tree Delivery Day – April 16th @ 9AM

We’ll be unloading and storing 250 trees in advance of the planting day. We will need all the help we can get to make this as quick and painless as possible.

If you’d like to help, please meet at 9AM at the Uptown Theatre (3163 Bailey Avenue).
