The UHC, through a partnership with Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, has created a community garden at 73 Tyler Street. The parcel was donated by a local landlord for use by the community. It has been tranformed into a place which serves as a green space to grow food locally, hold events, host gardening workshops, and build community among neighbors.
The garden has grown considerably over the past several years thanks to the work of area residents and UB students. It currently features eight raised beds, several perennial flower gardens, a handful of fruit trees, a community tool chest, and picnic table.
The beds are adopted and maintained by volunteers consisting of local residents, institutions, churches, and businesses. These gardens stage the perfect scene for small parties and public events where all are welcome and encouraged. Workdays will be scheduled periodically over the spring, summer, and autumn months so be sure to check for upcoming events and workshops by tuning into our Facebook page Tyler Street Grassroots Community Garden for any updates.
*THE GARDEN WILL OFFICIALLY BE OPENED ON FRIDAY, APRIL 8th but feel free to get a head start in cleaning and prepping your bed for this season!*
*WORKDAYS will be every final Tuesday (last of the month) from 3:30pm -7:00pm. Note: the extended hours are to accommodate our volunteers who work so any informational presentation or workshop will take place between the hours of 5:30 – 6:30pm.*
