Welcome to the University Heights Tool Library
Grand Re-Opening at Our New Location
The University Heights Tool Library is having a grand opening at its new location (5 W. Northrup Place right next to Just Pizza) on May 12th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Come see what we're all about, what we've accomplished over the past year and how you can get involved!
Come browse our growing inventory of available tools, enjoy drinks, snacks, a safety workshop, and the progress our volunteers have made on restoring our new storefront space to its original grandeur. The money raised will be reinvested into additional tools as well as targeted small-scale community re-investment projects.
P.S. Tools make a great housewarming gift!
New Location - 5 W. NORTHRUP PLACE
Thanks to everyone that came out over the weekend to help us move. We are now situated in our new location right next to Just Pizza at 5 W. Northrup Place. Please bear with us as we adjust to our new space. Our hours will continue as normal. Feel free to stop by and say hi, lend a hand, or give a suggestion.
WE'RE MOVING!!!
The University Heights Tool Library will be moving to its new location at the corner of Main and W. Northrup at the end of January. Located right next to Just Pizza, we couldn't be more happy with the location or the space itself. We will be moving a majority of our inventory the weekend of the 28th and 29th if anyone would like to volunteer an hour or two.
Once we get settled in we're also hoping to start hosting monthly community workshops at the Restoration Society located at the corner of Englewood and Cornell. Please email us with ideas or suggestions for workshops you'd like to see.
New and Improved Hours!
We are happy to announce that the Tool Library is expanding it's hours during the week! In addition to being open on Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Tool Library will also be open on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 3:30pm to 6:00pm. Thanks to all our volunteers for making this possible, and to all our members for keeping us going!
Tool List Online
Now you can get a complete up-to-date list of the tools in our inventory and whether they are currently available or on loan. A searchable pdf file will be updated and available for download at the end of every weekend under the 'Tools' menu. Check it out!
Grand Opening & Fundraiser!
The University Heights Tool Library is having its public grand opening and fundraiser this coming Saturday, the 14th from Noon - 4:00pm. It's a great way to see what the program is all about, what it hopes to accomplish and how people might help! There will be food, drinks, a 50/50 raffle, a wishlist to let us know what sort of tools people would like/need us to carry, and the vocal stylings of UB's very own Buffalo Chips. It'll be located right at the Tool Library - 3083 Main Street. Hope to see you there!

What?
A tool library is a non-profit program set up to lend tools out to community members to help them maintain and fix-up their homes and gardens. Tools can range anywhere from hammers, screwdrivers, and shovels to power drills, circular saws, and sanders. Individuals and businesses can donate tools to the program which will then be circulated throughout the neighborhood for a small annual membership fee. This revenue stream helps cover much of the overhead associated with the service. PUSH Buffalo and Buffalo ReUse have already teamed up to create the Buffalo Tool Library (www.buffalotoollibrary.org) to serve the West and East Sides of Buffalo.

The University Heights Tool Library will also be a member of the Buffalo Tool Library system. This means that members can borrow tools from any branch as long as they are returned to that branch.
Where?
The University Heights, running from Capen Blvd. to LaSalle Ave. is a dynamic and vibrant neighborhood that has seen incredible changes over its lifetime. Situated in North Buffalo and bordering UB’s South Campus, the highly walkable, diverse, and affordable neighborhood has begun to experience the neglect and disinvestment common to older urban neighborhoods. However, through low cost high impact programs like the Tool Library, residents of the Univeristy Heights and similar neighborhoods in Buffalo can be empowered to make positive changes.
Why?
The Tool Library will be open to all residents of Buffalo, whether homeowner, or renter. Thus, people looking for an alternative to buying expensive tools that get little use now have this resource at their disposal. Also, a tool library, in its most basic form, exudes the ideals of sustainability and community by lowering reinvesment costs while also fostering greater cooperation and collaboration among neighbors.
How to Join?
For an individual to join the Tool Library the following things are necessary:
- Valid driver’s license or photo I.D.
- Piece of mail (to verify residency)
- Signed membership app. and waiver
- $10 annual membership fee
- 2 references with contact information
Businesses and agencies may become Tool Library members by authorizing an individual to take responsibility for borrowing tools and who will provide the following:
